The leak is bigger than you think
If your office misses even a handful of calls each week, you're not losing messages — you're losing booked jobs. A homeowner with no heat does not leave a voicemail and wait. Put a number on it
You don't need a study to size this. You need four numbers you already have.

Substitute your real numbers before you believe mine. If your average ticket is $900 because you do replacements, the figure doubles. If you close 60% of inbound because your reputation is strong locally, it climbs again. The point of the model is not the output — it's that the output is almost always larger than the guess you'd make from memory.
After-hours hurts twice
Evening and weekend calls skew toward urgent work: no heat, no AC, an active leak, a failed water heater. Two things are true about those callers at once.
They have the highest intent you will see all week — they are not comparing options, they want someone today. And they have the shortest patience, because the problem is happening to them right now. A two-hour callback window on a Saturday morning is not a delayed job. It is a lost one, and often a lost customer, because whoever answered first now owns the relationship and the maintenance plan that follows it.

What "fast enough" actually looks like
Operators who recover the most from this share a pattern, and it is less about AI than about the shape of the response:

- The reply qualifies using your real prices, service area, and policies, not generic language that gives the customer nothing to act on.
